General Questions About Vidon XBMC

1. Why is there a black screen at the end of my videos after playback?
This problem may be caused by using the “Amber” skin for VidOn XBMC. To change your XBMC skin to the original please navigate to “System” -> “Appearance” -> “Skin” and select “Confluence”.

2. My VidOn XBMC is unstable, what should I do?
Please try to remove your current version and install the latest version of VidOn XBMC.

3. Does VidOn XBMC support 1080P video playback? If so, how can I configure 1080p playback?
Yes, VidOn XBMC supports 1080P video playback. There is no need to manually configure these playback settings as they are standard.

4. How can I send a VidOn XBMC log file?
In VidOn XBMC, go to “System” -> “VidOn” -> “Debugging” and choose “Send log file and dump file now”. You may also set VidOn XBMC to automatically send log files whenever an error occurs.

5. How can I upgrade VidOn XBMC?
In VidOn XBMC, go to “System” -> “VidOn” -> ”Upgrade”, and choose “Check new version ”, VidOn XBMC will automatically detect any new version and download the update.

6. How can I deinterlace videos in VidOn XBMC?
During playback, press the menu button on the remote, navigate to settings and configure  “Deinterlace video” and “Deinterlace method” to your choosing.

7. What should I do if VidOn XBMC says the region code is not correct?
Please go to “System” -> ”VidOn” -> “Blu-ray” and choose the region code which matches the source you wish to play.


8. Does VidOn XBMC support Blu-ray Menu Navigation? If so, how can I configure Blu-ray Menu Navigation?
Yes, VidOn XBMC supports Blu-ray Navigation. In VidOn XBMC, select your desired film, and when prompted choose “Show Blu-ray menus” to enable this feature.

9. Does VidOn XBMC support 3D playback? If so, how can I configure 3D playback?
Yes, VidOn XBMC does support 3D playback in the “Main Title Mode” of VidOn XBMC:
Navigate to “System” -> “Settings” -> “VidOn” -> “Blu-ray”,  and choose the3D mode option.

Hardware Acceleration on the VidOn Server

The VidOn Server combines the best hardware acceleration to offer you an outstanding user experience.

1. VidOn Server’s Hardware Acceleration feature must first be supported by your graphics cards.

2. Please make sure your graphics card is up to date with the latest drivers.

3. Current, the hardware acceleration feature is not supported on AMD graphics cards due to technical issues.

4. The VidOn Server will automatically detect your graphics card's information and compare it with your CPU to determine whether to enable Hardware acceleration.

5. If your PC has Intel Integrated Graphics, butHardware accelerationis not enabled, please note the following:

Scenario 1:
The VidOn Server will automatically enable Hardware Acceleration if your PC has an Intel HD Graphics card which supports Intel® Quick Sync Video.If not, please enter Bios to enable IQS for your graphics card.

Scenario 2:
For PC’s using both an Intel integrated graphics card and a discrete graphics card, if discrete card is more powerful, the VidOn Server will automatically enable Hardware Acceleration; If the Intel integrated graphic card isbetter, then the card must support IQS to enable hardware acceleration. Please note that some old modellaptops and motherboards may not be able to utilize this feature.

6. If you are using the following graphics cards (with CUDA 5.0 or higher), please be sure to install the driver released after Geforce WHQL 334.89 (Feb 2014 2014-2-18):

1. Which platforms/devices support VidOn Server & VidOn Cloud?
VidOn Server supports PC 's running Windows7/8 (32bit or 64 bit).
VidOn Cloud supports iOS and Android mobile devices.

2. How can I access the VidOn Server from VidOn Cloud TV (Android Box)？

Start VidOn Cloud TV, go to “Settings”, select “Resource”.

3. How can I access the VidOn Server from VidOn Cloud (Mobile Device)？

Step 1：Select  “Connect Manually”.
Step 2: Start VidOn Server, go to“Server Settings” – “Server Status” to check the IP address.

1.1 Single Movie File:

Use the official movie name for your file.

Example: Movie Name.mkv


1.2 Segmented Movie File(Multi-part movies)

For a movie divided into multiple files, be sure to include the part number

at the end of the file name in the following format:

_pt1, _pt2

The following may also be used: _cdX, _ptX, _partX, _discX, _dvdX (where X represents the file part number).

Example: Movie Name _pt1.mp4, Movie Name _pt2.mp4


2. TV Show File Naming:


2.1 Supported TV Show naming conventions

Show Name s01e12 (s: season number, e: episode number)

2.3 Single File Containing Multiple Episodes:

The files still follow the same naming conventions as above, but in the case of multiple episodes, the first and last episode of the file must be in the file name.

Example: Show Name_s01e01-e04.mkv

Then all four episodes will have their contents scrapped.


For TV Series Ripped From a Disc:

The files will follow the same naming conventions as above, but instead of including the season and episode number, the file name should include the season and disc number.

Example: Show Name_s01_d01.iso, Show Name_s01_d02.iso

Then you may choose play either d01 or d02.


3. DVD and Blu-ray file naming rules


3.1 Standard DVD and Blu-ray Image File

Use the official movie name for your file.

1. Can the VidOn box output HDMI and SPDIF audio at the same time?

Yes, to do so please go to “Settings”, then ”Audio”, and cancel “Enable passthrough”, and select both the “HDMI” and “S/PDIF” options.

2. Why does the VidOn Box reset when I touch it?

This problem may be caused by static. If this problem occurs, please discharge before touching the VidOn Box.

3. Does the VidOn Box support HDMI-CEC?

Like many other android boxes, the VidOn Box does not support HDMI-CEC.

4. Does the VidOn Box support USB 3.0?

No, the VidOn Box only has two USB 2.0 ports.

5. Why doesn't the VidOn Box recognize my hard drive when connected to the USB ports?

Because of the power support, the sub hub near the antenna only supports flash disks. If you connect two external hard drives, you may need an external power supply for the one nearer the antenna.

6. Does the VidOn Box support wireless devices?

The VidOn box supports wireless mice and keyboards, but it does not support blue tooth devices. 

7. What is the maximum hard drive support of the VidOn Box?

The VidOn Box is capable of supporting up to a 3TB external hard drive. There is no limitation for NAS support.

8. Does the VidOn Box support third party accessories?

Yes, but please make sure the accessories are compatible with android set top boxes.

9. Does VidOn Box support third party software or apps?

The VidOn Box runs Android 4.4 so you may download apps from Google play in addition to installing your own apps. It support apps such as Netflix, Youtube, Hulu plus, and Pinterest. You may install these apps by clicking their icons on the main screen. The VidOn Box also comes with VidOn XBMC, which was developed based on XBMC Frodo and XBMC Gotham. 

10. What video, audio and photo formats does the VidOn Box support.

The VidOn Box supports nearly all popular formats, including:

How to Use VidOn Remote（FAQ）

1.1 Is VidOn Remote for all the Blu-ray Boxes running Android?
      Nope, it is designed exclusively for VidOn XBMC.

1.2 How does VidOn Remote work on VidOn XBMC?
      a. Make sure your phone running VidOn Remote share the same WLAN with VidOn XBMC;
      b. Start VidOn XBMC and go to System->Settings->Services;
      c. Open Webserver->Enable “Allow control of XBMC via HTTP”, and then set up the port, username and password;
      d. Start VidOn Remote, tap the button at the top right corner, and then tap “Connect to device” from the menu to automatically search for VidOn XBMC, or manually connect to VidOn XBMC.

1.3 How to manually connect my phone to VidOn XBMC?
     a. Go to “Add Device” page;
     b. Enter the device name (XBMC to be connected), otherwise, system will use the IP address if the Name is unspecified;
     c. Enter your Host IP (IP address can be acquired at XBMC System->System Info->IP address);
     d. Enter the port number, the one you can find at Webserver page;
     e. Enter your username and password, the same ones at Webserver page.
     f. Tap “Save”.

1.5 How to switch between Button Mode and Touch Mode?
     Touch mode is for users to control by gestures. Users can tap the Switch Key at the top left corner of Remote key control panel to switch between the two modes.

     The MOVIES, TV SHOWS, MUSIC and PICTURES available on VidOn Remote are for users to access the respective resources on VidOn XBMC, so that users can use the Remote to browse and play back related media contents.        
   

User Guide of VidOn Media Center

VidOn Media Center is an Android based launcher and video playback and management software,  designed as a home entertainment solution for all of your digital media. The VidOn Media Center's built in video player supports Blu-ray menu navigation and 3D Blu-ray playback, as well as a huge variety of popular video formats. The cloud backup function can even quickly and easily back up your photos and videos (PC, External hard drive and Nas) and help you build a fortress to protect your valuable digital media.

1. Initial Settings

Initialization comes along with the first bootup. The whole initialization process will take about 3 minutes.

After the process completed, please follow the wizard to do some settings.

1.1. Language Settings

Set the language for interface:

1.3. Network Settings

Set Wi-Fi and wired network connection:

Wi-Fi

Choose Wi-Fi to open Wi-Fi settings screen.

At the left of the screen, you can see all Wi-Fi signals that have been detected. Select the one you want to connect to, then press “OK” button on the control to connect. A password is required for a protected Wi-Fi. A successful connection will appear like this:

Wired Network

The box will automatically connect to the network after a network cable is plugged in. If you check the “DHCP” box, then IP address will be automatically obtained.

If you prefer a manual configuration, just uncheck “DHCP” then choose each setting entry to set manually.

1.4. Time Settings

Check the options of “Automatic Time Zone Sync” and “Automatic Time Sync”, then the system will automatically synchronize time zone and time. If you want to set a time zone or a time, just uncheck the corresponding option.

1.5. Audio Settings

Select an audio output mode from HDMI and S/PDIF. And choose whether to enable passthrough.

 1.6. Check for Update

Once a new version is detected, the system will automatically download the update package and install it. If the box is running the newest version already, then update is not needed.

1.7. User Login

Input the username and password registered on the official website to login to the box. User information will appear after a successful login:

Choose “Switch” to switch the account when needed.

1.8. Bind Account

If it’s the first time you login to the box, you need to bind the box with a top-up card under your account:

Along with a successful binding, all initial settings are completed. Now you can go to the home screen of VidOn Media Center.

General settings include settings to language and device name.

Network

Here you can set Wi-Fi and wired network.

Display

Display settings include settings to screen resolution, screen size, contrast and brightness.

Audio

Here you can set audio output mode and choose whether to enable passthrough or not.

User Center

User Center shows user info and license info.

Choose “Switch” then you are able to switch another account to login. Choose “Top up” and you can top up current account.

Time

Here you can set the time zone and the time.

Advanced

Choose “Advanced” and Android system settings appear.

Power Management

Here you can choose “Shutdown” or “Dormancy” to save power. And you can set the auto shutdown time and screensaver time.

Update

You can choose “Check for Update” to check if there is a new version. Then you can download and install the update package if there is any.

Feedback

If you encounter any problems during the usage, such as crash, reboot, etc, you can send the log to us, which will help us pinpoint and solve the problems.
